Fine Beautiful Making A Mantel
So heres what I used.
Making a mantel. Youll likely use a 16 board for the framework and the 110 for the front piece. Mark your holes on the brick avoiding any grout lines. Mark and predrill holes to line up with the mortar joints.
1 x 2 scrap boards. One 8 long 1 x 4 pine board for bottom of mantel. Zibra designed paint brushes for people like me.

Secure the cleat to the wall using Tapcon screws. Cut a breastplate from a 1x12 board to fit around the brace. Two 8 long 1 x 10 pine boards for front and top of mantel.
